The right to be forgotten - the personal data legislation that any NGO should follow

28 November 2018

The Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law (BCNL) issued a Handbook for NGOs "Personal Data Protection" prepared by authors of the Access to Information Programme (AIP). The aim of the Handbook is non-governmental organizations to get acquainted with the specific requirements and obligations that arise for them under current legislation after the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) effective as of 25 May 2018.

The guide explains all the key issues organizations should be aware of in order to implement the new requirements. The general topics, such as what personal data is, what personal data processing is, what are the rights of the subjects of personal data themselves, etc., are explained also through examples of NGO practice. A key issue for all - what are the obligations of organizations when processing personal data - is also developed with answers to several specific for the activity of NGO issues.

The Handbook is issued under the project "Continuing and Extended Support for Civil Society Organizations" funded by the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
