Advocating for a better environment for civil society

The Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law (BCNL) is actively working to improve the environment in which civil society organizations operate in Bulgaria. We believe that a strong civil society is the foundation for democracy, social justice and sustainable development. That is why we focus our efforts on advocating for policy and legislative changes that ensure an enabling environment for CSOs to work and develop.

Our work includes:

• Advising on the creation of effective laws – We participate in the development and amendment of legislation affecting CSOs, aiming to ensure transparency, stability and adequate financial support that leads to financial sustainability.
• Association – We defend the right to association, freedom of expression and sustainable funding for the sector by actively engaging with institutions and partners.
• Capacity building – We support organisations through trainings, consultations, analysis and information on their legal and financial options.
• Crisis support – We respond quickly and effectively in situations where CSOs’ rights and freedoms are threatened.

Our approach is based on dialogue, transparency and cooperation. We work for change that reflects the needs of the sector, while seeking to increase trust and understanding between organisations, institutions and society.

With BCNL, CSOs not only have an advocate, but a partner for a sustainable future.
