“TAXATION OF NGOs IN BULGARIA” Sofia, 2004

“Taxation of NGOs” is a publication of the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law (BCNL) issued with the support of the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law funded by the United States Agency for International Development.

 

The book describes the current tax regime for NGOs in 2004. The aim of the issue is to give answers in clear and understandable language to a great number of questions, related to the tax liability of NGOs. It is a part from the series of materials published by BCNL, which aims to clarify on different legal aspects of the activity of NGOs.

 

The authors of the book Iliyan Krilov and Mitko Stoykov are experts from the “Tax policy” Department at the Ministry of Finance and the Supreme Tax Directorate. They have made their efforts to present the possibly most entire picture of the taxation of NGOs in Bulgaria. The book includes questions and answers on the general tax liability of all taxable persons (as well as the sanctions for their violation), the taxation of income from economic and non-profit activity, the taxes at the source and the patent tax, the taxation of donations and donors and different types of local taxes and fees.

 

The ambition of BCNL is this book to become a valuable handbook for the managers, the accountants and other people involved in the activity of NGOs. In this way the organization hopes that will contribute to the creation of a unified tax practice in the country.
