CONSTITUTIONAL FORUM- DISCUSSION ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES
On February 10th, 2006 in Alexander hall of Radisson SAS hotel, Sofia was hold a discussion meeting about the forthcoming changes in the Constitution of Republic of Bulgaria, organized by the Bulgarian Center for-Non-for Profit Law and the Judicial Strengthening Initiative with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development.
Representatives of the main parliamentary political groups, magistrates, members of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Judicial Council and leaders of important non-governmental organizations took part in the discussion. The event was reflected by the media as well.
The forum was officially open with the lectures of Mr. Ivan Grigorov- Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation, Mr. Fernando Ponce – First secretary of the Delegation of the European Commission in Bulgaria and Mr. Ken Stewart – Chief of party of the Judicial Strengthening Initiative.
In a parallel format were presented the concepts for the future constitutional changes in our country, in comparison with the foreign experience, of two Constitutional Law professors: Prof. Giuseppe Di Federico – Bologna University and Prof. Victor Fereres – Barcelona University.
As lectors who presented their statements and positions on the forthcoming constitutional reforms were: Mr. Alexander Arabadziev- Bulgarian Socialist Party, Mrs. Neli Kuzkova- Bulgarian Judges Union and Mrs. Daniela Dokovska- Legislative Drafting Institute. Supreme magistrates and representatives of the professional community participated in the discussion that followed.
