Join us! A Campaign for Ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law (BCNL) launched a campaign  for raising public support for the ratification of the United Nations’ (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on June 13th 2011.

The Convention was adopted by the UN in 2006 and entered into force in 2008. Bulgaria signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007 but has not yet ratified it. So far nearly 100 countries worldwide have ratified the Convention. On December 23, 2010 the European Union also joined it and therefore is obliged to provide effective measures and mechanisms to ensure equality of people with disabilities in the activities of their state institutions.

BCNL believes that our country should take effective steps to implement the commitments made by signing the Convention and to ratify it. If you share those believes too, you can join our efforts in one of the following ways:

1. To download a banner of the campaign and publish it on your website. Banners can be found here.
2. To support the campaign through the page of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee;
3. To mail postcard of the campaign distributed in Varna, Sofia, Plovdiv, StaraZagora and Burgas by Fame cards to the Council of Ministers (the address is indicated on the card).
