NGO Sustainability Index 2014 for Bulgaria: The civil sector is still unstable
The NGO Sustainability Index 2014 for Bulgaria shows stagnation in the development of the civil sector. Bulgaria has a 3.3 quotient and falls into the “developing sustainability” category for the third consecutive year.
“The results from NGO Sustainability Index 2014 shows that the civil sector in Bulgaria is still unstable. This is one of the biggest problems for non-governmental organizations, which requires immediate actions. Their direction is clear: financial stability, development of organizational capacity, including working with local communities and volunteers and improvement of work of the NGOs with the government”, comments Lyuben Panov, Director of Bulgarian Center for Non-for-profit Law.
According to the data of the research, the NGO sector in Estonia and Czech Republic are the most stable ones. In this category are also Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and Latvia.
“Developing sustainability” category includes Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro.
In comparison with the indicators from the past year, Bulgaria has made progress regarding organizational capacity, infrastructure and financial stability. The NGO community is at a decline in the categories legal environment, advocacy and social prestige.
