In March 2016 the Board of Trustees of Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law (BCNL) elected Nadya Shabani as the new Director of the Foundation. Members of the Parliament and civil society organizations in common position for the changes in NPLEA

Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in West Hall of the National Assembly it was held a public discussion between first and second reading of amendments in the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act (NPLEA). The forum was initiated by the Parliamentary Committee on the interaction with NGOs and citizen complaints jointly with the Public Council to the Committee.

11 projects from around Bulgaria have been awarded financial grants from the VivaCom regional program

The Parliament supported the alternative for people to vote remotely by electronic means

Yesterday, January 21st, 2016, at its regular plenary the National Assembly adopted a resolution endorsing the alternative to vote remotely by electronic means, when elections and referendums are hold. This will be stipulated in accordance to the legal guarantees for the secrecy of the vote, the civilian control of the election process and the security of information systems.

NGOs will participate in the Committee on the implementation of the updated strategy for judicial reform

Last week the government approved the proposal for the establishment of a Council on the implementation of the updated strategy for continuing the reform of the judiciary. The council will function as a permanent advisory body to the Council of Ministers.

Parliament finally adopted the amendments to the Social Assistance Act

Thanks to the efforts of a group of civil society organizations, which raised the issues for public debate, the proposals made by the Commission on labour, social and demographic policy of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Ministry of Justice, the texts meet the standards of the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, allowing for the first time in Bulgaria to apply the standards of Art. 12.
